Hello! I’m Sophie
I fell in love with improv comedy 20 years ago when I innocently rocked up to a drop-in in Stockwell. I used to be one of those sometimes-confident, often-extremely anxious-types. Improv class was the thing that started huge changes in me, and I’m proud to say my career reflects that.
Since I realised you can train in this stuff, I’ve studied clown, Meisner, stand up and with loads of awesome improv teachers like Dave Razowsky, Colleen and Jason from Dummy, Susan Messing, Rachel Mason, TJ & Dave, and many more besides!
19 years ago, my first group, Made Up Like Tarts, performed for 3 years in the now-bulldozed* Bath House pub in London’s glittering West End.
I was a founding member of Big Now, C3-Something, The Auditors, Somewhat Theatre, and one half of the wonderful duo, Fat Perm.
In 2019 I got a Master’s in Voice to go deeper into vocal performance, accents, voice science and singing.
I set up and performed as The Folly, a teaching company with a monthly gig showcasing improv across the Midlands.
I’ve lived and worked in several countries across Europe and Asia. I’m back in London again, currently cooking up my own projects that you’ll find here as well as teaching at the UK’s largest improv company, Hoopla, and hosting and performing in shows at its theatre – the first improv theatre in London indeed – the Miller.
I directed my first film last year – it was fully improvised – called Committing the Kiss.
My one-to-one coaching is deep, weird and wild – the testimonials attest to it! It’s informed by my time as a workplace mediator, my experience and knowledge of non-dual philosophies – particularly shaiva tantra and Existential Kink, and my general attitude that we are all marvellous creatures who have the potential to be utterly fascinating and incredibly beautiful on stage.
*I want to say it was Crossrail, not the quality of the shows, that led to its demise
